Draft League 2018/19

Draw & Results

Round 5 vs Brisbane AFG

With the team having returned to winning ways against South Brisbane in Round 4, the Draft side were looking to extend their lead at the top of the league against Brisbane AFG. Proving to be the teams go-to man for goals this season, Ben Frank took his goal tally to 8 with a strike either side of Elliot Brown’s 5th of the season, and an AFG goal. With a deserved half time lead of 3-1, Aletti came out for the second half looking to score more. AFG were able to grab the first goal in the half to bring it back to 3-2, however from here on Aletti took control of the game and goals from Charlie Spencer, Ben Doran, and Tim Jay confirmed a 6-2 win for the Draft side, maintaining 1st place in the league.

Round 4 vs South Brisbane

Having lost in Round 3 to Bulimba Bears, the Aletti draft side were fired up and targeting a return to winning ways against 4th placed South Brisbane. In what was an extremely even contest, South Brisbane took an early lead following a patient piece of build up, however Elliot Brown soon equalised for Aletti. From here the game continued to be end-to-end, with South Brisbane going 2-1 up before goals from Ashvin Tharumanathan and Elliot Brown put Aletti 3-2 up at half time. The second half of the match was relatively tame compared to the first, however both teams were able to create a couple of chances. Keaton Retamal was able to put Aletti 4-2 up, midway through the half, before South Brisbane grabbed a late consolation goal, with the match ending 4-3 to Aletti.

Round 3 vs Bulimba Bears

With 2 wins from their opening 2 games, the Aletti draft side were full of confidence coming in to the game against Bulimba Bears. However, a very slow start to the game for Aletti enabled Bulimba to assert their dominance in the early stages of the game. This pressure eventually was telling, with Bulimba leading 3-0 at half time. Knowing the first half performance was not to the Aletti standard, they started the second half in much better fashion. Putting Bulimba under pressure each time they got the ball, Aletti were able to drag their way back in to the game with goals from Elliot Brown, Lucas Bruck, and Ben Frank. However at 4-3, miscommunication between the Aletti players enabled Bulimba to lead 5-3 going in to the final minutes. A goal from Dane Stokes gave Aletti hope, but ultimately the team fell short, going down 5-4 in their first loss of the season.

Round 2 vs Just Futsal

Following their convincing 11-1 win in Round 1 of the new Draft League season, Aletti were made to work considerably harder in their win over Just Futsal this week. The game started as a cagey affair, with neither team able to create many meaningful chances, and both keepers on hand producing a number of top saves. However as the game reached the midway point of the second half, a beautifully worked goal, finished off by Sam Pettit, gave Aletti a 1-0 lead. Shortly after this, it was 2-0 with Ben Frank grabbing his 5th of the season. This result keeps Aletti top of the league after the first 2 rounds of the season.

Round 1 vs Carina

Aletti began the defence of their Draft League Premiership and Championship with a dominant 11-1 win over Carina. From the outset of the game, Aletti applied the same level of pressure they became known for last season, and goals from Lucas Bruck at either end of the half put Aletti 5-0 up at the break. Coming out for the second half, Aletti continued to apply pressure to Carina, and a quick-fire second-half hattrick from Ben Frank helped the team to a massive 11-1 win to start the season.
