2018 SERIES FUTSAL RECAP

April 2018 saw the newly formed club Aletti Kenmore take part in Series Futsal for the first time. With a large squad working together, coached by Marty Calvert, the Australian Men’s coach, Aletti were able to quickly show their talent and strength as a club in both the premier competition Series Queensland, and it’s reserve-grade Draft League.

SERIES QUEENSLAND
In Series Queensland Aletti picked up an impressive five wins from their first six games taking the team to 2nd on the league, before a drop in form saw the side lose three consecutive games and drop to 5th. This however served as inspiration for the players to work harder and recover the form that saw them contend with the top teams in the league. In the following fixtures, Aletti dominated their opponents winning 6-2, 7-1, and 5-1 back-to-back. This pushed the side back into the top three, well within contention for finals futsal. The final eight rounds of the season saw Aletti collect 4 wins, 2 loses, and 2 draws, which proved enough to finish the season in 2nd place.

Going into finals, Aletti were drawn against 3rd placed South Brisbane, following their preliminary round win against Macgregor FC. In what was an extremely tight game between two evenly matched teams, the game ended 2-2 and subsequently went to penalties, with South Brisbane winning 4-3.

DRAFT LEAGUE
In the Draft League, Aletti stormed to the top of the league with four wins from their first four games. Round 5 saw the team drop points for the first time, in a 2-2 draw against Just Futsal. However, from here the side stepped up a gear and didn’t look back, winning their next thirteen matches. During this incredibly run, the team had sealed 1st place in the league with five fixtures of the season remaining. Unfortunately Aletti were unable to go the season undefeated, losing 4-2 to Just Futsal in the third-last game of the season. This however was the only blip in their season, as they cruised into the Grand Final following a 4-0 win over South Brisbane in the semi finals. The Aletti Draft team will play Just Futsal in the Grand Final on Sunday September 23, at QSFC Acacia Ridge.

Overall, the Aletti Kenmore team can be extremely proud of their first season in Series Futsal, displaying a brand of futsal that has made them a team extremely enjoyable to watch. With an exciting future ahead of them, Aletti are definitely a team to keep an eye on.
